William (Will) H. Coker IV, MA, Marriage & Family Therapist Associate

Therapist

Will is an evolving behavioral health clinician with an exceptional ability to connect with people. As a trauma informed provider, he brings incredible real-world knowledge and experience and an engaging and inspiring manner as a Registered Associate in both individual and marriage, family, and couples counseling.

Will continues to serve as a firefighter/paramedic with over 25 years of experience working side by side with other fire and EMS, law enforcement agencies, medical personnel, and the military. He understands Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and has initiated Critical Incident Stress Debriefing with professional first responders. Initially trained in 2004 as a peer supporter, he has utilized “psychological first aid” to help peers and strangers recover from traumatic calls and challenging experiences. As a husband, father, and peer, Will brings a unique experience to both sides of the spectrum of support.

Will graduated from George Fox University earning a MA in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling after retiring as an Army Veteran who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2009-2010). He sincerely believes it is a privilege to come alongside individuals, couples, and their families who have endured trauma and loss.

Will’s superpower in counseling is his empathy and enduring belief that all healing happens eyeball to eyeball, with another human being compassionately bearing witness to the experience. Trauma does not discriminate. Sooner or later, everybody loses it, and the goal should be how quickly we can get it back.

His passion is assisting people with anxiety, depression and relationship troubles. He will be an advocate as a counselor, listening to their needs, and attempting to understand their concerns in order to work on establishing sustainable solutions together in a collaborative way.

Serving the public good has been a driving force in his personal and professional life well before pivoting into a career in mental health. Authentic empathy and the genuine ability to build effective rapport is what routinely manifests in the room when actively working with patients or clients regardless of color, creed, sexual orientation, religious practice, political views, socio-economic status, or circumstances of a particular client. Through being sensitive to each person’s unique circumstances, he strives to meet people where they are at the moment.
