Kara King, MSW, LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Licensed Clinical Social Worker | Trauma-Informed Therapist

My journey to becoming a mental health therapist began in adolescence, driven by a desire to better understand myself and my experiences of identity development within a complex family system. This early curiosity grew into a lifelong passion for understanding people’s stories and honoring the resilience, pain, and strength that shape them.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have experience providing therapy to adults, children, adolescents, and families across a variety of clinical settings. I work with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma and stress-related symptoms, ADHD, adjustment difficulties, and caregiver-child relationship challenges. I also have experience supervising graduate-level interns and post-graduate therapists pursuing clinical licensure.

My therapeutic approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered, with a strong focus on building safety, connection, and trust. I believe healing occurs through meaningful relationships and through being seen, heard, and understood. I work collaboratively with clients, drawing on their strengths to support growth, emotional regulation, and self-understanding.

I have specialized training in EMDR therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based approaches. I also hold certificates in Therapy with Adoptive and Foster Families (Portland State University) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (UC Davis). I am especially passionate about supporting children and families through play-based and relationship-focused interventions.

I bring to my work my own lived experience navigating the world with hearing impairment and progressive vision loss, which informs my commitment to accessibility, compassion, and inclusion. Outside of therapy, I enjoy connecting with loved ones, reading for pleasure and new perspectives, spending time in nature, moving and challenging my body, slowing down to notice small moments of joy, practicing self-care, and finding opportunities to play.

Who I Work With: My practice serves children and adolescents (ages 2–18), young adults and adults (ages 19–64), and families.
