Mac McDonald, MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), my approach centers on creating a safe, compassionate space where youth and families feel seen, heard, and supported. I draw from a person-centered, strengths-based perspective and integrate solution-focused strategies to help clients navigate challenges, process difficult emotions, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. Whether we are exploring painful experiences or identifying personal strengths, my goal is to support healing, resilience, and a deeper sense of purpose.
I earned a Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling from George Fox University, as well as a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Colorado. My clinical experience includes a year-long internship and continued work at Yamhill County Family and Youth in McMinnville, Oregon, as well as my current practice at Fir Counseling in Portland. I work with individuals and families navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, grief, and related concerns. I also facilitate a weekly Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group for middle school boys.
In addition to my formal education, I have received advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Play Therapy, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and family systems therapy. These modalities allow me to take an integrative, personalized approach to therapy that honors each client’s unique story, needs, and goals.
Outside of my work, I enjoy hiking with my dog, Hank, running, reading, playing pickleball, and practicing piano.
Who I Work With: My practice serves children, young adults, and adults (ages 6–24), as well as families.
